Peter M. Chapman, PhD

Peter Chapman obtained a B.Sc., in Marine Biology in 1972, an M.Sc., in Biologic Oceanography in 1974 and a Ph.D., in Benthic ecology from the University of Victoria in 1979. He is a Principal and Senior Environmental Scientist with Golder Associates and has been with the firm since 2004. He has some 30 years of experience in environmental assessments with a particular focus on contaminated sediments and metals. He specializes in state-of-the-art scientific investigations and weight-of-evidence assessments conducted following the ecological risk assessment (ERA) paradigm. Has published over 160 refereed journal articles and book chapters, over 200 technical reports and given over 200 presentations at meetings. In 2001 the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) awarded him the Founders Award, their most prestigious award, for an outstanding career and significant contributions to the environmental sciences. He has been involved in ecological risk assessment since this process was formalized in the 1980s, is a peer reviewer for USEPA Risk Assessment Forum, a present member of the USEPA Science Advisory Board, and a former consultant to both Canadian and US National Research Councils for contaminated sediments.
